After more than a year of missing Bout of Books, I return to participate in it!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 20th and runs through Sunday, August 26th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 23 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I’m so happy that I remembered to check if it was coming out and that I have enough time to participate at least a little.  Or I should, rather.

For this Bout of Books, my goal is to finish 2 books and read 1 chapter a day of my current Malazan read, Deadhouse Landing.  Here’s hoping I manage!

Good luck to everyone participating!

Bout of Books 19 Final ‘Score’

Bout of Books

Bout of Books 19 has officially ended.

Somehow, I managed to make both of my goals (thanks to yesterday’s binge of The Library at Mount Char):

One chapter a day of Blood and Bone by Ian C. Esslemont
Three books, all for Beat the Backlist, started and finished: Closer to the Chest by Mercedes Lackey, The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis, and The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins.

Phew!  For a while there I didn’t think I’d make it, but since The Library was a quick read, I managed it.

I hope everyone who participated made their goals, but remember: at least you read more than you had before the start of the week!

Bout of Books 19 Day 6

Bout of Books

It’s Day 7 – the final day.  Here’s my update for yesterday:

Successfully read 1 chapter of Blood and Bone by Ian C. Esslemont (still on track somehow).
No progress on The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins (hopefully I’ll get back to it tomorrow).

Still holding strong at two books down.  I’m expecting to make some decent progress today since it’s my day off (finally).

Bout of Books 19 Day 5

Bout of Books

Is it Day 6 already?  Time flies when work and other issues keep kicking your butt.

Successfully read 1 chapter of Blood and Bone by Ian C. Esslemont (still on track!).
No progress on The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins.  Hopefully that will change today/tomorrow…

I’m starting to think I really was over-ambitious considering how packed I knew the tail end of the week was…

Bout of Books Day 3

Bout of Books

My update for Bout of Books Day 3 (late due to work):

Successfully read 1 chapter of Blood and Bone by Ian C. Esslemont.
Started The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins (maybe about an eighth to a quarter of the way in?)
I started and DNF’d Ice Song by Kirsten Imani Kasai, so I won’t be counting any progress made on that book.

Hope everyone else’s reading is going well!

Bout of Books 19 Day 2

Bout of Books

My update for BoB19 Day 2:

I successfully read 1 chapter of Blood and Bone by Ian C. Esslemont.
I finished The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis.

I just need to finish one more book this week to make my goal, so I’m wondering if I was too lenient.  But then, I did unexpectedly have more time yesterday than I thought I would, AND yesterday’s book turned out to have been published last year instead of earlier this year, so there were some surprises that made this goal easier to achieve (so far – we’ll see how things go from here on out).

Bout of Books 19 Day 1

Bout of Books

Bout of Books Day 1 has been and gone.

I successfully read 1 chapter of Blood and Bone by Ian C. Esslemont.
I also got a bit over half-way through The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis.
And I started and finished Closer to the Chest by Mercedes Lackey, but that’s a bonus book since it doesn’t count towards my stated goals for this week.
ETA: I lied, Closer to the Chest WAS published last year!  So one down, two to go (for this week).

I hope everyone else participating is doing well!

Bout of Books 19

It’s that time again.  Time for Bout of Books 19!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 8th and runs through Sunday, May 14th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 19 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I love Bout of Books.  I always read more during the weeks they are held because I’m one of those people who does well with hard deadlines.

For Bout of Books 19 my goal is to finish 3 books for #BeatTheBacklist and to read 1 chapter a day of whatever Malazan novel I’m on (probably Blood & Bone by Ian C. Esslemont at the rate I’m working through it).

Wish me luck!

And best of luck on your goals to everyone else participating.
