Hello everyone. You might have noticed I’ve been not around. That’s because aside from work I’m participating in this year’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), much like I do every year.
There might be an occasional book review but for the most part expect the blog to be quiet this month.
See you in December! (after I’ve recovered)
I’m going on a trip starting this weekend and I’m not planning on taking my computer do to the nature of the trip. I’ll have some reviews to type up when I get back, I’m sure, but since I’ll also need time to recover, don’t expect to hear from me before February 18th or so at the earliest.
Have a good couple of weeks and I’ll look forward to catching up with my backlog when I get back!
Hello everyone and Happy New Year (a few days late). I know I’ve posted two reviews since 2017 began, but I do have a bit of housekeeping/updates to talk about. Apologies for the delay in posting this.
Last year, I started to fall behind in commenting on other blogs, following them, etc. I’m going to try to be better about that this year. When life gets busy, blogging seems to be the first thing to suffer, and I deeply regret that. So hopefully, I’ll do better this year.
Secondly, there are going to be some changes to my review format. Usually, I open with a synopsis of the book and then word vomit my way through a review. I’m going to attempt to clean that up a bit by giving ‘What I Expected’ vs ‘What I Got’. I’m expecting the second of those sections to be both longer and more rambling, but at least there will be some kind of format. If it doesn’t work, then I will go back to what’s become standard here. We’ll just have to see together.
Finally, challenges. I’ve tried twice now to get through the When Are You Reading? Challenge, and while I made it through more this year than last year, I still didn’t come close to finishing. It has certainly challenged me to read outside my comfort zone, but I don’t think I’ll be officially participating this year. Good luck to everyone who is.
There is, however, a challenge I’m participating in: the Beat the Backlist 2017 Challenge. I chose it because it looks like an easy (for me) challenge, which is kind of what I would like after how crazy awful last year was.
Once again, Happy New Year to all!
It’s that time of year again. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) starts at midnight/12:01 am on Tuesday, November 1. AKA, tomorrow. Eek!
I am once again going to be participating, aiming to write a minimum of 50k. The story I’m working on is a continuation of the story I started two years ago but never managed to finish. I’m being very careful to note down my exact word count at the start of the month (according to my own word processor) so that I can be as exact as possible when I update my word count, even though I know that the NaNo Validator tends to add words to my count (better than my sister, who loses words off the official counter).
And, like every November, I am of course also in the middle of a play. So don’t be surprised if blog posts slow to a crawl – or even a halt – while I deal with memorizing lines and blocking, Tech Week, the entire run, plus NaNo. *Phew*
To everyone else participating, best of luck! And remember, whether you write 50k or 50 words, that’s still more than you had at the beginning of the month!
So, with 2015 over, I’ve decided to look back a bit at my blog posts and challenges and, in case anyone’s interested, I’m going to post my thoughts on my blog. Please, feel free to skip this if that sort of thing doesn’t appeal to you at all.
